September 19, 2008 Lesson Minutes

Simple Philosophy

  • John 4:23-24 – Worship is in spirit and truth. Can we worship God without faith or without truth in righteousness.
  • "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." --Galatians 5:25 The two most important things in our holy religion are the _life of faith_ and the _walk of faith_. He who shall rightly understand these is not far from being a master in experimental theology, for they are vital points to a Christian. You will never find true faith unattended by true godliness; on the other hand, you will never discover a truly holy life which has not for its root a living faith upon the righteousness of Christ. Woe unto those who seek after the one without the other! There are some who cultivate faith and forget holiness; these may be very high in orthodoxy, but they shall be very deep in condemnation, for they hold the truth in unrighteousness; and there are others who have strained after holiness of life, but have denied the faith, like the Pharisees of old, of whom the Master said, they were "whitewashed sepulchres."
  • Col. 1:28 – We evangelize and disciple by proclaiming, warning, and teaching all about Christ.
  • Eph. 4:11-16 – We are saved and gifted for the purpose of building up the body of Christ.
  • Matt. 28:18-20 – We are commanded to evangelize and discipline all men. Teaching them the truth of Christ and His commandments.
Goals
  • Need to have goals to measure our faithfulness and growth. Decided to evangelize the lost twice by December 1st.
  • Fellowship leading to repentance and service
  • Proclaim Christ to the lost
Format
  • Not interested at this time in communion or singing as a group
  • Like the idea of praying at the end
  • Like the idea of having kids be watched further from us or at different location once every other month. Need to consider location and willingness of baby sitters. Maybe do potluck or other event together.
Study Topics
In preparation for evangelizing, we should cover the topics of the gospel and evangelism in our upcoming lessons.
